Troias Apartment
Troias is a humble and textural home. Designed in collaboration with Royffe Flynn architects, this 1950s apartment is located on the third floor of a six-storey polykatoikia (apartment building). Unlike the majority of its post-war counterparts, Troias has a sense of old-world glamour. The home has a beautiful, mirrored entrance with marble steps and sits on a prominent corner of Kypseli, at the intersection of Troias and Drosopoulou Streets.
Troias consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a workspace or second living room. Light and air circulate throughout by way of large french doors and three separate balconies. The apartment’s original layout has been retained, along with most parts of the kitchen such as its cabinets, joinery, and the compact functionality of a series of countertops of varied height.
Marble is as central to the apartment’s interiors as it is to Athens itself. Flooring is made up of a large-format terrazzo set within a series of rectangular, circular and semicircular slabs. Mined 16-kilometres north-east of the city, the slabs were cut without waste, the offcuts broken up and used elsewhere in the apartment. Reclaimed pieces have been collected from Athens’s many marble yards to make the sinks, steps and panelling.
Troias is filled with found European mid-century furniture, locally made or sourced objects and artworks and plants from Kopria plant shop.
The home is available to rent on a long-term basis for 12 months or more. Make an enquiry here.
