Molonglo

Močan and Green Grout is a local cafe restaurant conceived and built in 2011 by Molonglo alongside Myles Chandler, Rebecca Chandler and David Alcorn. Located in the NewActon precinct, Močan and Green Grout is intimate and easy, placing cooking and food preparation at the core of the restaurant, both in approach and in the bones of the space, with benches for chefs set alongside guests. Serving produce sourced from local farmers, and herbs grown in the planters at the front door, it has been a favourite drop-in for Canberrans and visitors from day one.

Močan is fully run and owned by Myles, David and Becca today, but it has taught us enduring lessons about partnerships and evolution. A space filled by people you admire and want to work with is far more valuable than a purely transactional ‘tenant landlord’ relationship. A tenancy that evolves with a precinct is loved by its community – Močan has undergone a slow evolution from hole-in-the wall cafe to restaurant; its changing menu and its staff have grown and developed as NewActon has.
