A. Baker
When we began the process of building Canberra’s NewActon precinct we followed this basic thought process: Every village needs a baker. Let’s make one.
In 2013, we (with friends and partners) helped to create and eventually run A. Baker, short for Acton Baker, a bakery and regional-produce restaurant located in the heart of the precinct. In early 2016, bakery operations grew too large for its basement and so moved offsite but A. Baker remained a seller of bread and a wine shop, as well as a restaurant and cafe, until 2018.
A. Baker’s physical beauty was in part caused by its pain. Its walls were scarred with ash-blackened marks from a fire that sadly burnt down the restaurant, ironically called Flint, that preceded it.
