33 Allara Street
33 Allara Street, an 8-storey commercial building originally constructed in 1989 as part of a wider precinct comprising the Canberra Convention Centre, Canberra Casino and Glebe Park, was acquired by Molonglo in late 2015 with the vision to turn this part of the city into a layered neighbourhood and place of cultural activity.
Significant improvements have been undertaken in collaboration with Royffe.Flynn, Oculus, Durbach Block Jaggers and Aecom Engineers. The warm and welcoming lobby with its terrazzo floors, timber cabinetry, custom-designed furniture, curated artworks, coffee bar and large steel-framed windows and doors spills out onto the pedestrian promenade and planted courtyard. Energy performance has been sharpened and the natural light from two directions maximised.
The final phase of development is the addition of a series of micro-retail kiosks to the exterior promenade layering a new texture to Canberra’s city streets.
33 Allara is no longer managed by Molonglo. The building was sold in early 2022.
