While Harry Seidler is one of Australia’s most famous architects, little is known of his European-born contemporaries. The Other Moderns uncovers the work of Sydney’s forgotten émigré architects, interior designers, and furniture makers working from the 1930s to 1960s, and reveals their impact on modernist design.

Profiles include work by architects such as Henry Epstein and Hugo Stossel, furniture companies Artes Studios and Gerstl Furniture, and designers Susan Kozma-Orlay, Paul Kafka and George Kóródy.

All chapters are illustrated with photographs from Margaret Michaelis, archival imagery, and purpose-shot works by Molonglo and design studio U-P featuring pieces from Molonglo’s collection as well as those from Sydney collector Ken Neale.

The book was co-published with NewSouth Publishing.
